In the Guides, SmokeShield® and 1024/Defender departments in Mountain Top, PA, Robert Thomas kicks off his day at five in the morning. Being the supervisor, his first task is to meet with the associates from the previous shift. During this meeting, he’ll pull the schedule and make a plan for his teams. He then checks in on the associates in his three bays, making sure they have what they need and to stay on track.
When Robert talks about his day-to-day, he describes it as equally rewarding and tiring. He works closely with three bays, managing and overseeing productivity and quality, while also ensuring the well-being of the associates that he leads.
“As a strong advocate of servant leadership and learning by example, I’m deeply engaged in our operational processes,” Robert explained. “In my position, I’m responsible for overseeing three bays that are dedicated to building components for our doors. I make sure to maintain strong communication and diligent follow-up on parts and jobs to meet our rigorous quality standards while prioritizing the safety of our shop associates.”
Working alongside his associates, Robert knows everything that goes into manufacturing a rolling door. Coupled with his hands-on experience and his associate’s ideas, he can grow and evolve his department.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve, whether the process or working directly with engineers to create a better product. Being involved helps maintain our quality, and ensures that we’re following the standards that allow us to be leaders in the garage door industry,” he said.
Robert takes pride in seeing his associates succeed and watching them reach and exceed their goals. “It’s understanding that we’re all in this together and that we can rely on each other. That makes working in some of the most challenging bays worth it."
