“Safety doesn’t happen by accident.” – Anonymous
No matter what industry you’re in, the safety of your staff and visitors is likely your first priority, with the safety and security of your equipment and products second. And like the quote above states, planning for the safety of people and products is not accidental. It takes time, planning, and careful consideration. From external possible threats to issues inside your facility, your task list to champion safety inside and out may seem daunting.
We can help when it comes to the security of your facility with our security closures. Here are three ways our rolling doors and grilles can amplify safety precautions in your building.
Truth be told, almost any well-built closure can assist in protecting your facility from the outside world. The important factor here is how well the closure you choose holds up. Whether it’s a matter of keeping your space off limits to intruders with a standard rolling door or stepping it up a notch with a heavier gauge curtain and heavier-duty door overall, a facility needs reliable closures for protection from bad actors or extreme weather events depending on location. We have quite a few products that can help in these areas.

Not all closures are created equally. Depending on which rolling door or grille you choose, it may come standard with safety sensors or have the option to upgrade your product of choice to them. Typically, these sensors are called entrapment protection devices and are required under UL 325 compliance.
These devices are used in tandem with motorized closures to ensure the door hits nothing in its downward path of travel. If an object enters the door’s path, the device will stop the door or grille from closing and return it to the fully open position. Entrapment protection devices can add enhanced security to your facility, bringing peace of mind to employees and visitors as they traverse your building, with or without equipment.
There are two types of entrapment protection devices: primary and optional secondary ones. Primary entrapment devices include electric or wireless sensing edges, photo eyes, and light curtains. Secondary entrapment protection devices include electric sensing edge with wireless edge kit and sensing/smoke seal edge.
We sometimes see a rolling door or grille placed in the wrong application. This spells trouble for safety measures in a facility along with possible liability issues.
While a standard roll up door or grille may work nicely in an area that isn’t used very often daily or weekly, it’s a completely different ball game in a busy space such as manufacturing company or parking garage where the closure will cycle many times per day and have high peak cycle times.
Just as you wouldn’t expect an old-school Polaroid camera to stack up against a brand-new Nikon with a DSLR lens, a standard rolling closure may not give you the quality and security you’re looking for if it’s incorrectly installed in a high-traffic and frequently used space.
