“Schools are prioritizing flexible security,” says Heather Bender, Director of Commercial Product Marketing with Clopay Corporation. “There’s an increasing demand for solutions that can adapt to changing conditions.”
Emergency response grilles and doors make it easier than ever to make campuses safer.
Means of egress are required by the International Building Code (IBC) to ensure safe and efficient evacuation from buildings during emergencies. However, egress pathways like hallways and corridors can be challenging to secure. In the event of a fire, occupants need a safe way out. In other emergencies, it’s necessary to zone or compartmentalize a building.
“Current building and municipal codes don’t adequately account for all situations that can influence the entry and exit of occupants during an emergency,” Bender explains. “CrossingGard® with ThreatProtect™ Grilles and Doors adapt to manage both and allow for secondary egress solutions”
CrossingGard with ThreatProtect offers two security solutions: coiling security grilles and rolling doors. The choice between these options hinges on a few factors, including ventilation, visibility, and location.
CrossingGard with ThreatProtect Grilles are designed with steel links instead of a solid curtain. This design works well in corridors and hallways that need to maintain safe ventilation and visibility. Grilles come equipped with a manual-lifting jam lock that hinders forced entry.
CrossingGard with ThreatProtect Doors have a solid galvanized steel curtain and are available with optional like insulation for temperature control or perforations for visibility. This design works in both interiors and exteriors where there is little to no need for visibility or ventilation. The door comes standard with a UL 325-compliant safety edge, battery backup, and key override.
Both doors and grilles will allow you to:
The CrossingGard with ThreatProtect system is unique in its functionality. It integrates with fire and threat alarm systems to control the operation of the door or grille. This means that when there's a lockdown procedure, the door or grill will automatically close, zoning the building and restricting the movement of hostile threats. During fire emergencies, the system will quickly open the door or grille, giving occupants additional safe and clear ways out.
Physical security doesn’t have to compromise aesthetics. In fact, a well-designed security system can blend into the architecture. This is especially key for schools, where it’s important to maintain a warm and inviting emotional environment for the campus community. CrossingGard with ThreatProtect Grilles and Doors achieve this with their compact design. When not in use, the door or grille can tuck discreetly into the ceiling while smooth edges and compact guides provide an unobtrusive transition between spaces.
CrossingGard with ThreatProtect Grilles and Doors offer a comprehensive solution for school security. The system addresses egress challenges and adapts to ever-evolving security needs, while also maintaining the integrity of the emotional environment.
