The Hanover Area Little League concession stand's counter doors were showing their age, looking worn and broken after years of service. Concessions manager Nicole Nealon recalled the daily struggle, "The locks were broken and the doors were so hard to open and close. Because of that, the doors were often left open or unlocked, creating a security risk and letting in bugs, dirt, and rain."
That all changed when the Little League Legends - LNE Community Impact Project, a Leadership Northeast (LNE) initiative, stepped in with a mission to renovate the concession stand and improve the experience for players, families, and the community. As a proud partner, Clopay Corporation contributed to the effort by donating two much-needed counter doors.
"Leadership Northeast is grateful for the collaborative and generous contributions of community-minded organizations like Clopay,” said Jessica Cronauer, LNE executive director. “Their stewardship and dedication to improving the community played a major role in the success of this Community Impact Project."
Even a winter storm couldn't stop the project. Braving the November cold, Clopay Architectural Design Support experts Ross Baran and Todd O'Boyle went on-site to measure for the new rolling counter doors. The main entry door was frozen shut, forcing them to chip away at the ice before they could take their measurements. Soon after, the new doors were custom-built to fit the existing wood frame at the Clopay Corporation manufacturing plant in Mountain Top, Pa., just a few minutes away.
The new rolling counter doors were installed just in time for the start of the spring season, giving the concession stand a cleaner, more uniform look. Thanks to a compact design, built-in sidebolt locks, and easy push-pull operation, the doors now provide reliable security and protection from the elements.
“The new counter doors are easy for volunteers to use and are much more aesthetically pleasing,” said Nealon. “We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them for both their looks and daily functionality. These new counter doors are a real home run for us!”
Through the community partnership between Clopay Corporation and the Little League Legends - LNE Community Impact Project, the local Little League concession stand is now a more secure and welcoming place for players, families, and the community. This project is a clear testament to the powerful, lasting impact that local partnerships can have, creating a legacy that will benefit families and volunteers for years to come.
