How do you integrate project management methodologies into your role to ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects?
We utilize a Stage Gate process for our new product development projects. This process allows us to evaluate progress toward critical milestones and assess the risks/opportunities of a project as it moves through the development lifecycle. The Stage Gate process also ensures that our most valuable resource, our team members, are focused on the projects that will make the biggest impact. Project managers maintain timelines and host regular project update meetings to ensure the team is aware of upcoming deadlines, particularly those impacting the critical path to successful project completion.
How do you align engineering project goals with broader company objectives, and how does your role contribute to the overall strategic direction of the company?
Our engineering and marketing teams meet for an annual summit where we evaluate opportunities within our ever-changing market. During this event, we identify projects that will best align with Clopay Corporation's strategic vision; these projects fulfill an unmet need for our customers while positively contributing toward our EBIDTA and Vitality goals. As a project manager, it is my job to coordinate collaboration between the various groups working on these projects and ensure we are utilizing our resources effectively. Focusing our concerted effort on high-impact projects to deliver quality products on time and within budget directly supports sustainable, strategic growth for Clopay Corporation.
