David Dawdy Recognized in Door Access Systems News Magazine
David Dawdy, former Director of Strategic Marketing, Fire and Life Safety for Clopay Corporation, was recently recognized by Door + Access Systems newsmagazine for his 40-year career in the garage door industry.Dawdy retired in December 2022 and now serves Clopay Corporation in a part-time consultancy role. The article dives into his career from landing his first sales job out of college to managing a startup and taking on his position at Cornell and Cookson.
As reported by Door + Access Systems editor Vickie Jones, “Dawdy has left an undeniable mark on the industry, particularly the fire and life safety sector.” Through his work and perseverance, he created and defined industry standards and enhanced fire and life safety education.
Dawdy continues to offer industry training and serves on technical committees including DASMA, NFPA 80 and NFPA 85, and the UL STC. He currently chairs the DASMA Joint Technical Committee and participates in IBC and IFC code hearings as an advocate for the overhead door industry. Dawdy is a former director for the International Door Association Board of Directors, chairing its Technical and Education committee.
