Milestones
- In 1952, Robert Bacon starts Applied Handling, Inc. and works on developing new designs for dock leveling equipment. His designs streamlined operations for Stroh Brewery, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors. Bacon also began selling conveying and storage and handling equipment.
- In the mid 1950s Robert Bacon relocates offices to midtown Detroit and started specifying equipment for new construction and refurbished buildings. He develops the Rite-Hite Truck Actuated Leveler and dock shelter.
- Ten years later, applied handling moves to Detroit, MI and Roberts sons Bruce and Drew join the business.
- In 1973 Applied Handling celebrates 21 years in the loading dock industry and begins construction on its Dearborn headquarters.
- In 1977 Bruce, Drew, and Robert's son-in-law Jim Theim officially join the company. The "combination" control panel is created
- In 1982 Robert Bacon retires, concluding 30 years of leadership and service at Applied Handling.
- 1992- Applied Handling opens a new facility in Grand Rapids, MI.
- 1994- The Flint, MI facility is established and moves to Clio in 2011.
- 2000- Jim Theim retires from Applied Handling
- 2004- Bruce and Drew continue to lead Applied Handling and are joined by partners Craig Sturgis, Ken Birecki, and Scott Murray
