Whether you are building a new parking garage or remodeling an existing, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has standards in place that must be met.
The ADA requires that one in every six accessible parking spaces must be ADA van accessible in a parking garage – this sounds simple, right? The reality is that an ADA van fits through a typical parking garage opening with only about 16” to spare. If the owner wanted to secure the parking garage with a security grille, that amount of space for a parking grille assembly is generally unheard of……… that is until, the Extreme 300 Series MicroCoil Grille.
The compact MicroCoil Grille easily fits into a 16” space, allowing an ADA van to freely enter and exit a parking garage with no worry of damaging the top of their van. Because this grille requires nearly 50% less headroom than other high cycle grilles on the market, almost any parking facility has enough head room to install a MicroCoil Grille in their parking garage and still be ADA complaint.
The secret to the MicroCoil’s compact design is the patented link system. The grille is designed to self -stack and nest within each other, allowing it to coil tighter than any other grille on the market. This design also minimizes noise and vibrations – making it one of the smoothest and quietest grilles available to date.
Because of the Extreme High Performance MicroCoil - 500K Cycle, parking garages no longer need to compromise security in order to be ADA compliant!
ADA requirements specify that all openings must provide at least 98” of clearance to accommodate handicapped accessible vans. That means that almost all typical commercial parking garages would not be able to install a standard roll up gate without being out ADA compliance. Even if roll down security gates were previously installed, ADA 2010 standards require that if any alterations or improvements are made to the structure, the entire structure must be in compliance. So what can be done to help improve security and safety concerns and still stay in compliance with ADA 2010?
